Singing the Blues - Watercolour - 13" x 20" - August 2011

Thornetta Davis really struck me when I saw her perform live at the Blues Festival... A big part of what captured my attention was her dress, I confess! Anyway, I worked on this last week while I was on vacation, and then set it aside, as I really wasn't so sure about it... it was the background... it was way too faded looking, so I tackled it again yesterday afternoon, and ended up with this. I was hoping to have something bold enough in the background to balance out the brilliance of her dress, but not outshine her 'performance', so to speak :)

Does this woman know how to say "I'M HERE" or WHAT. She's big and bold - absolutely love this, you totally captured her presence! Thank you for all the hard work on that dress pattern, it was worth it, a feast for the eyes.
