Burning Bridges by Face-Reality Burning Bridges by Face-Reality
Burning Bridges - Watercolour - 20" x 28" - May 2012

I think it's finished! This is my beautiful daughter Robin, with her gorgeous fiery red hair that I have become so fond of painting.

For this portrait, I used only four colours - a far cry fewer than my last one. I'm quite impressed with how colourful it seems in spite of the limited palette.

I have a desire to paint a HUGE canvas in acrylic for my next one - stay tuned!!

Thanks for looking! :)

That is gorgeous.  I love the shadows on her face and the use of blue in the stones in the background.  You're an absolute pro with those watercolours.

You have a very beautiful daughter, and I see what you mean about painting the hair, I also enjoy painting hair. All the colours look really good and the background is nothing but interesting. You really seem to get the facial features right. :meow:

You're a very good watercolorist.
I admire your ability to use few colors. Nothing i do is short of the full rainbow...

I keep coming back to this out of the other watercolors. Great depth. You had to have used something for the highlights in the nose and around the eyes right?

Nope... all watercolour... the white is the white of the paper - not always an easy feat, challenging at times, but none other than paper and watercolour :)

Gorgeous. Did you use acrylic for the fur or mask it?

Thank you! No, this is painted entirely in watercolour alone, and yes, for some areas, I masked them out while working on surrounding areas :)

It works a treat! Shows that a limited palette doesn't limit the result.
