Becca and her Baby by Face-Reality Becca and her Baby by Face-Reality
9.5" x 12" - Pencil HB - 6B

This is my daughter Rebecca, with her ever precious cat, Simba... treats her just like her baby... and why not - she's had her since SHE was a baby... Becca's 14, Simba's 15... and she's a great cat!

This drawing was a little more challenging than my last... what with the Simba's markings, and what with Rebecca's blonde hair... yikes!! But I'm rather pleased with the outcome, maybe not so much with the picture quality though.. always lose a little something there...

Thanks for looking! :)

No, I scanned it as one piece, but I think because the paper size is somewhat larger than the scanner bed itself, the paper was not flush with the glass, so light seeped through.... and then when I tried to photograph it, no matter which angle I put it on, it would tend to pick up glare on one section or the other... Frustrating at times trying to get a decent image of our artwork, isn't it? Oh, and I was going nuts!! That has to have been the toughest drawing I've done in quite some time... not sure what I was thinking trying to produce all those strands of hair and fur! HA! Well, at least I can say in the end that I am happy with the result, so it was worth it! :)

Yes, that happens - you must have a bigger flat bed then i do - i have a small one big enough to do 8 1/2 x 11 but no bigger, but have occasionally needed bigger. there was one pic i did, an inked house about 18 x 24 - i tried scanning in pieces but i couldn't make the hatchwork mesh when i tried to combine it - so i went to kinko's and had them use their giant rolling scanner - which MIGHT be an issue for pencil pieces. *shrug* i dunno

anyway, it was VERY well done so i'm glad you think it was worth the time and crazines! :D

Cats can be hard to draw .. making them look soft instead of rough and prickly. Amazing job though. Keeping all those whiskers white is quite the feat.

Thanks! Yes, cats can be difficult to draw... you kinda get lost in all that fur! It was fun to draw though :)

Thanks! Funny thing, when I picked out Simba, I thought her markings were soooooo original! I was fooled. Seems there are many cats with the exact same markings as her!! Oh, and we (once upon a time), had a hamster named Gizmo! :)

Thanks Lynda!! Yup, pencil all the way - and I'm rather enjoying it these days! I've got some paintings going at the same time, but the pencil keeps 'drawing' me back! :)
